Purpose of this product

Sky Sports+ gives customers access to 50% more sport as part of their package. The limited number of Sky Sports channels meant that the existing offering couldn't handle the volume of concurrent games on offer. The Sky Sports design team were tasked with designing a standalone Sky Sports TV app that would scale with this growth and offer all Sky Sports customers seamless access to live and on-demand content.

The challenge was to design for a complex, multi-platform experience that served users coming from a variety of entry points and which elevates the basic live sport consumption experience.

Process

Each project area involved a deep understanding of the challenge, understanding the existing landscape, creating wireframes, mapping out complex user journeys, testing concepts with customers, refining ideas and collaborating cross-functionally to ensure we were aligning with product goals and technical feasibility.

I led several product areas which are highlighted below. If you want to delve deeper into my approach and process, let's have a chat!

Project highlights 💡

This work involved crafting multiple end-to-end journeys to defining the entire app experience from the ground up.

Below are a selection of product areas I led from a UX perspective as part of the delivery of the Sky Sports TV app. This involved collaborating with our UI designer to refine screens ready for delivery.

Entry & Exit Journeys

It was crucial to map out entry and exit journeys for this product since it doesn't live in the SkyOS. It was important to consider how we orientate users throughout the experience, and how to overcome the business requirement to keep users in the app upon back journeys, even if they entered through red button.

Race control experience

A key painpoint of the previous race control pattern was that if users entered multiple streams, there would be no clear pathway back to the main stream.

I pushed for a revised experience to be prioritised on the product roadmap to improve the usability of race control in the new full screen experience.

Showpages

These act as a gateway to content and help orientate the user. I explored various phases of the showpage roadmap, from MVP through to highly innovative concepts. The current state of showpages, pictured below, need to serve the core purpose of accessing content and discovering contextually related content.

Cup Competition tables

I led the design of a new tournament table pattern to accommodate the Bundesliga’s revised format, along with other multistage competitions like the EFL Trophy and Carabao Cup.

It was important to keep this view as simplified as possible since the bracket format for these competitions can be difficult to demonstrate visually without graphs and lots of lines!

Building the tables in this way helped to bring clarity to a complex format.

Accessibility Compliance

To meet EAA 2025 standards, I documented accessibility guidelines for over 150+ components. This included conversational score announcements, clear information hierarchy, and language standards to support screen readers.

Feedback

Lilymae is a real asset to work with - she always produces the most detailed and easy to understand design documentation, as well as always questioning the status quo and looking for user experiences to improve that people may not be considering. On top of all that she is always friendly and a pleasure to work with - as demonstrated throughout the Sky Sports TV app, particularly on the work around TV app entry and exit points.
- Product Lead -

I worked with Lilymae on the Sky Sports TV app, which she led [various projects] from a design perspective. Working with Lilymae was a pleasure from start to finish. She demonstrated exceptional skills and talent, particularly through her user-centered design thinking and strong aptitude for user research.
